Support the good kids--
Buy a market animal
Just what you can do to support our kids at the Livestock Auction. The Livestock Auction is ALWAYS the first Saturday in August at 1 PM.
You have many options in how you may take part.
1. Donate money to the Sales Committee. This money will be used as "price support", adding on additional funds to those kids that had their animals sell at below average prices. Donated money is tax deductible.
2. Help a specific child or kids in a specific club only--donate money to be added to their final sell price. An "add on". This money is also tax deductible.
3. Come to our auction--always the first Saturday in August--and purchase a beef, sheep, or swine for your freezer. Simply say "Custom" when asked what you want to do with it. You will be charged the full amount of your per pound bid, plus a fee for killing, cutting, and wrapping. You can pick up your purchase in a couple of weeks in nice, little white packages, ready for your freezer.
Remember, all our exhibitors sign a "Code of Ethics" form that states that the animal you are purchasing is free of hormones and was humanly treated. Although we, the West Valley Fair, cannot guarantee your purchase to be "drug free", the kids have signed a letter stating that it is. In order to raise an animal that has a chance to win "Grand Champion", it must be fed only the best feeds and exercised regularly. Lean, well muscled animals win; sloppy fat animals don't. You only get the best at our fair. NOTHING can compare to the taste of home-raised meat. Unfortunately, if you take the animal home, you don't get a tax deduction.
4. Come to our auction and "take it home". If you ever thought about starting to raise your own beef, sheep, or swine, start your herd here! You pay the full auction price and don't get a tax deduction.
5. To really make a kid happy, buy an animal and "give it back to the kid" to resell it or let them take it home. You pay the full auction price and get a tax deduction.
6. Come to our auction and "turn" an animal. How this works: you "buy" an animal at the price you bid, then immediately "sell" that animal to the packing house at whatever price they are offering. You pay the difference between your bid price and your "sell" price, taking a "loss" on your sell, which is a tax write-off.
Example: You buy a steer for 80 cents a pound, then "turn" it. If the packing house is paying 65 cents a pound for beef, you "sell" at a 15 cent per pound "loss".
7. Come to our auction and "add-on" to whoever you wish. If the 4-H or FFA member reminds you of your granddaughter, give her an extra $25 add on to the price she sells at. Or if one of the kids gets knocked down in the sell ring and is embarrassed, give them an extra $10 after the animal is sold to help them get over their embarrassment. All "add-ons" are tax deductible.
However you so choose to support our kids, it is greatly appreciated!
