Sherry Mitchell Memorial Trophy
Sherry Mitchell served others, especially youth, her whole life. She first became involved in 4-H with a horse project at the age of 10. She was an adult leader in Whitman County when her oldest son joined 4-H and was a Project leader for Family Living and Home Economics when the family moved to Moxee. Sherry was also a Clothing and Textiles advisor with the Extension Service to specially serve and teach sewing to the Spanish speaking.
Sherry served in Chile, where she first saw the use of a drop spindle for spinning yarn. Having sheep and a llama to guard them naturally developed her interest in spinning. Then came an Angora and Cashmere goat to supply other fibers. She was involved in the Sheep to Shuttle Guild, where she enjoyed working with baskets and natural materials, along with spinning. Sherry loved life, the beauty of life and animals, and the opportunity to create beauty with her handiwork.
A traveling trophy to be awarded to the Grand Champion Exhibit in the 4-H Fleece and Fiber Contest, has been donated by the Black Rock Wranglers 4-H Club in memory of Sherry Mitchell, who gave of her time and talents so unselfishly for the benefit of future generations of leaders.
