Critter Pals

Þ      Exhibits accepted 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM Thursday morning.

Þ      Record books are due at the time of entry.

Þ      Exhibits must be on display Thursday, Friday and Saturday (same as cavies and cats).

Þ      The exhibitor is totally responsible for their pet.  For the safety of the pet and those attending this event, someone must be with the pet at all times.

Þ      Entries done by cage/container.  Up to 4 animals per cage/container counts as one entry.  First entry is $2.00.  Each consecutive entry is $1.00.  (example: 2nd tank of rats, cat, etc.)

Þ      Males and females must be caged separately, except fish.

Þ      You must supply your own cage, food, and water.

Þ      Cage must be taken home at night for your pets safety.

Þ      Cage Decorations (all classes)

Þ      Costume Class (all classes)

Þ      Posters are required for each type of animal (all classes)

 

 

MAMMALS

 

1.      Follow 4-H Fitting and Showing of Rabbits and Cavies guidelines (PNW0573) and Type/Classification.

2.      Rats and cavies are to follow West Valley Fair Premium Book for Class and Lot.

3.      All others follow as closely as possible.

Show cage or tank (must be able to see the pet clearly—no colored plastics).  Animals kept in a group need a separate show container for judging.

 

 

Division I - Rats

 

Þ      All rats will be judged by Rats Pacific NW Rat Fancier’s Club rules..

Lot Numbers:

      1.    Kitten class, 6 weeks—14 weeks

Division III – All Other Mammals

 

Class A—Gerbil                 Class B—Hamster                    Class C—Mice

Class D—Chincilla             Class E—Ferret

     

Lot Numbers:

      1.    Female under 4 months

      2.    Male under 4 months

      3.    Male over 4 months

      4.    Female over 4 months

 

 

Division IV – Retiles, Amphibian, Fish

 

Þ      Iguanas, salamanders, snakes, turtles, lizards, newts, chameleons, etc.

 

Class A—Reptile

Class B—Amphibian

Class C—Fish

     

      Lot Numbers:

                  1.    Male

                  2.    Female

                  3.    Other

 

Fitting & Showing:

1.      Bring animal to judge’s table

2.      Containers (i.e.: tank, bowl) should be no larger than 10 gallons.

3.      Tell the judge:

Þ      Scientific Name

Þ      How to care for the pet

Þ      Type of Feed

Þ      What makes your pet different from another animal

Þ      A favorite thing that your pet does

Þ      If you can hold your pet, show the different body types

Division V – Birds

 

Þ      Follow 4-H Poultry Fitting & Showing guidelines (EM4887) and Classification (handout #12).

Þ      Class and Lot to follow as close as the breed will allow to the West Valley Fair Premium Book.

 

Class A—Large Birds (African Gray, Amazon, Cockatoo and larger)

 

            Lot Numbers:

1.      Young Male (4 months to 3 years)

2.      Young Female (4 months to 3 years)

3.      Mature Male (over 3 years old)

4.      Mature Female (over 3 years old)

 

Class B—Small Birds (Conure, Lovebirds, and smaller)

 

      Lot Numbers:

1.      Young Male (4—12 months)

2.      Young Female (4—12 months)

3.      Mature Male (over 12 months old)

4.      Mature Female (over 12 months old)
